splatoon splatoon 2 splatoon tips tricks tips and tricks speedrun speedrunning new game+ thoughts I know this is a little different from what I usually write about but I hope I piqued some interest because speedrunning when done right looks amazing in the amount of optimization of the game’s mechanics. You don’t want those trouble stages to kill your run and force a reset. Along the way you’ll find stages that’ll give you trouble so be sure to take note of them and practice them. Stage 5-24 is cycle-based so mastery of this stage is vital to catch the cycles on your first attempt. Stage 1-3 has extremely strict in movement and combined with two jumps you need to do can easily mess up your run (which is why I route this stage first in my run). Throughout my time running the New Game+ category Stages 1-3 (Dualies) and 5-24 (Charger) are definitely two red flags to watch out for. Routing those weapons is gonna be the hard but creative part though since there’s no restrictions to what you must use for what stage but there are recommendations for certain stages. The other weapons are just not efficient enough to get the job done in a timely fashion so the three mentioned are your best bet. My recommendation is to stick to the Hero Shot, Dualies, and Charger and 100% those weapons in Octo Canyon prior to attempting to dabble in this category to prevent Sheldon interrupting your run to yak about weapons (which he already does enough of in his store). In the New Game+ category you have access to all of the weapons. All you have to do is clear all of the stages in any order. The world record run for New Game+ starts from Area 5′s final boss and works their way back to Area 1. One flexible element you see here is that you don’t have to tackle the stages in order or even the areas in order. Time ends when you grab the final zapfish You must complete all levels and bosses in any order With my thoughts out of the way, here are some small tips for the New Game+ category if you want to tackle speedrunning but don’t want to have to go through the hassle of making a brand new file every time (the Any% category):ġ) Know the rules of the category: The rules for New Game+ is as follows (besides having a completed save file): There is very little to no time to relax in the run and so it can become quite the behemoth to tackle a speedrun all the way for the first time. where you even might be going, or thinking of your practice. You’re either thinking of what weapon is needed for the next stage. In speedrunning every moment is spent thinking and executing, even during the loading screens. At least in multiplayer you have the lobby loading time to comb through possible strategies and relax. Thoughts - Cons: A whole other beast in itself. Because of this, you can whittle away at your own pace unlike maintaining Rank X which (I think, not too sure since I heard some stuff here and here) you need to score monthly to maintain your status. You just have to hone your own skill at the run until you can keep beating your record. No outside player RNG, no possible inconsistency from outside causes, etc. Thoughts - Pros: A lot of the challenge comes from you vs. I’ll put my thoughts out and a few tips for those interested in maybe dipping their toes into this activity: I feel like speedrunning adds a new dimension to games as it allows the player to really push the mechanics of the game to its fullest. This is something I always wanted to write on for a little while ever since I started to tackle speedrunning in Splatoon 2 as a different way to challenge myself and push my skills in this game.
